In the Grampian Region you will be
spoilt for choice of things to do as it has 4 national tourist routes:
Scotlands castle trail from spectacular ruins like Huntly and Dunnottar
to fairy tale castles like Crathes or Fyvie which are often combined with
beautiful gardens; the malt whisky trail centred around Dufftown is ideal for
visiting those famous whiskies, Glenfiddich, the Glenlivet, Macallan, Aberlour
and Strathisla which are all open to the public and some also offer free tours;
the coastal trail is almost 200 miles long with fine beaches along the way from
Findhorn to Cruden Bay, picturesque villages and harbours abound such as
Macduff and Crovie, view seabirds packed onto craggy cliffs while dolphins play
offshore; the Victorian heritage trail takes you from Braemar station to
Fettercairn through spectacular scenery. There are also dozens of golf courses
and fishing on rivers from the Don and Dee to the Spey as well as excellent way
marked walking and cycling trails including the Speyside Way from Spey Bay to
Aviemore with a spur to Tomintoul. Highland Games are a very important aspect
of life in this area and you will find games to visit all summer from June
ending with the Braemar Gathering on the first Saturday in September. There is
so much to enjoy in this area that no day is long enough.
