PEKES MANOR HOUSE

PEKES MANOR HOUSE sleeps 16/18

Pekes is a tile-hung Tudor Manor house on three floors with oak beamed ceilings, oak panelling and eight double bedrooms. Impressive paneled entrance hall leads in to paneled dining room with beamed ceiling seats 18 to 28.Oak beamed kitchen with original brick floor, large old working fireplace, oil fired aga and table seating 12 or more. The view from the kitchen is exceptional, 8 miles of unspoilt countryside.

 

OAST HOUSE sleeps 7/11

Spacious Oast House with private spa in the extensive grounds of the Manor House. Four bedrooms sleeps 7 to 11. It consists of two large (17ft diameter)round towers,which were originally used for drying hops for beer making during the late 19th century. Hop growing did not prosper and the buildings became used as barns.They were converted to a Dower House in 1911.

GATE COTTAGE

GATE COTTAGE sleeps 4/5

Gate Cottage is a small, cosy cottage close to the entrance at Pekes. Two double bedrooms sleeping four to five people. The cottage is situated in the ground of a private country house, up a drive of about 200 yards. It has its own peaceful large garden, mainly grass, which is safely enclosed making it suitable for small children and dogs (approx. 15 x 35 metres). It is cosily furnished with floral country prints and colours, fitted carpets and a mixture of furniture making it a very restful place to stay.

 

TUDOR VIEW sleeps 4/6

Tudor View cottage situated close to the Manor House with exceptional views. Two bedrooms sleeping four to six people.The views from TUDOR VIEW are exceptional. From one side you can see my own Tudor House and garden and from the other side you can see about 8 miles of countryside. TUDOR VIEW is spacious and comfortably furnished with floral country prints. It has a country style kitchen with a light oak table, and an adjustable overhead light with dimmer switch.

EDWARDIAN WING sleeps 6

The Wing of the Manor house was originally a cow shed, converted in 1911, to make a drawing room and library for the house.It is very unusual with polished parquet floors and domed ceilings with striking mahogany doors. Effectively two very large rooms, one exclusively a bedroom, the other a large L shaped room with wood burning stove, tables seating 6-12 and three divan beds.

 
  You will be swimming surrounded by beautiful plants and flowers in a most unusual setting, maintained all year round. The pool is 15' x 30' and is 2'6" at the shallow and 6' at the deep end. The water temperature never drops below 82F (28°C) & is usually 84F (29°C) For the summer there is a patio at the far end, looking out onto the orchard, with umbrella tables and chairs. Use of this pool is included in the rental. Please note: The pool is only available to residents at Pekes. i.e. Pekes House, Oast House and the two Cottages.   Swimming Pool
  Private swimming for individual families is easily arranged. SAUNA/JACUZZI available to all visitors out of season and some use high season. Part of the out-buildings adjacent to Pekes House have been converted into an unusual sauna and spa pool. The sauna has an electric sauna stove and is big enough for 4 - 6 people. "The spa pool is heated and has a Jacuzzi Hydro-massage Jets. and is also big enough for 6 people. In addition there is a shower, wash basin and separate W.C. There is a 50p meter for the use of these facilities. Average cost about £ 1 per session. NEW SOLARIUM ROOM We have now opened our solarium. It has a 2'6" x 6 sunbed and also an excercise bike and rowing machine. It is adjacent to the sauna/jacuzzi and is on a separate 50p meter. It is available by arrangement (i.e. each house has a key).

 


Out & About

East Sussex is a very interesting area to explore with masses to see and do. The county town of Lewes is nine miles away with its historic castle and interesting shops. The regency town of Brighton is eighteen miles away with its Pavilion, lanes and marina. The South Downs starting at Eastbourne, twelve miles away, stretch almost to Brighton. Chalk cliffs form famous landmarks along the coast. Beachy Head the most famous, followed by the Seven Sisters. The 'Long Man of Wilmington' carved on the side of the Downs is a well known landmark approximately ten miles away. For children there are theme parks including the well known Drusilla's Park approximately sixteen miles by road, just before you get to the famous village of Alfriston. Tourist Board maps and other information are provided in all the houses, together with our excellent written description of local services, shopping, pubs, restaurants and sports facilities. Fabulous large oast house for seven to eleven. Two period cottage for four to six and Edwardian wing of the Manor house sleeping four to five. Children and obedient dogs welcome. Tourist board grading four to five keys commened. Open all year.
