Holiday cottages in Kent

Dubbed 'The garden of England', the county of Kent is heavily reliant on agriculture, whether it is in the hopfields or the apple orchards. Its proximity to the continent of Europe, (Dover to Calais is a mere 23 miles across the English Channel) makes it the European Gateway. Dover castle is set high above the famous port and commands quite a spectacular view of the surrounding sea. Leeds Castle is one of the most beautiful of all English castles and, along with Hever Castle, has a strong link with King Henry VIII. The city of Canterbury is synonymous with the literary classic 'The Canterbury Tales' which is a fine example of early English literature.

Holiday cottages in Surrey

Surrey
, with its characteristic rolling hills of the North Downs, picture postcard country villages, and large areas of woodland it is surely one of England's most beautiful counties. Guildford is now the County town and boasts an impressive Cathedral, high on Stag Hill overlooking the town. The most important date in Surreys history is undoubtedly 15 June 1215 when at Runnymede (an island on the River Thames), King John signed the Magna Carta (or Great Charter). One of the most famous places in Surrey is Epsom, the site of the World famous Epsom Derby horse race which has been run over the same course since 1780.
