Holiday Cottages in Tayside
- Perthshire, Kinross, Angus, Fife, St Andrews
The region of Tayside is, as the name implies, centred
around the river Tay, the longest river in Scotland. The region includes the
formerly independent counties of Perthshire, Angus and Forfarshire. Tayside
covers an expanse of some 2,973 square miles and has a population of some
400,000. The administrative centre is to be found in the city of Dundee with
other major towns being Perth, Arbroath and Forfar. Natural features of the
region include the Flens of Angus, Southern Grampian Mountains, Lochs Tay and
Rannoch, Ochil and Sidlaw Hills and River Tay.
The ancient Scottish
Kingdom of Fife forms one of the smallest of the Scottish regions
covering an area of 502 square miles and with a population of 350,000. The East
Neuk of Fife contains many picturesque fishing villages which attract tourists.
The administrative town for the county is Glenrothes with the towns of
Dunfermline, St Andrews (the home of Golf). The county boasts possibly the
earliest site of settlement in Scotland at Tentsmuir. The ancient palace of the
Stuarts was at Falkland and no less than Eight Scottish kings are buried at
Dunfermline.
