Gwynedd, Denbigh, Conwy, Cardigan, Carmarthen, Pembrokeshire, Powys, Snowdonia,
Brecon Becons
High mountains, hidden valleys, tranquil lakes,
white water rivers, and a long coastline of beaches, bays, coves and estuaries
... More than 400 castles and ancient monuments... Wales is a great place to
relax in its peaceful surroundings or unwind with activity holidays. And a
holiday cottage is the best way to relax.
There is a huge choice in
Wales for visitors of all ages to do and see. It's one of the UK's most popular
walking destinations. The rolling, grassy landscapes are ideal for pony
trekkers and mountain bikers. For sailors there are sheltered inlets and off
shore islands to explore and on the west-facing beaches surfers find some of
the best waves in the British Isles.
Other activities include -
everything from abseiling to white-water rafting, hang gliding to parascending
You can ride the Little Railways of Wales including the narrow-gauge railway to
the summit of Snowdon, the highest mountain in England and Wales. You can
explore the dramatic subterranean world underground in the Brecon Beacons and
at the National Showcaves Centre.
The coastline extends for 750
miles and encompasses every thing from seaside resorts, tranquil sailing
centres, open sandy beaches and hidden away, secluded rocky coves. Amusement
and theme parks, award-winning mountain and ocean zoos and farm parks that
welcome visitors, make up some of the many attractions, together with truly
unique attractions such as the Centre for Alternative Technology near
Machynlleth in mid Wales and the enchanting fairytale village of Portmeirion on
the northern coast of Cardigan Bay and the National Botanic Garden in south
west Wales. Castles, stone circles and prehistoric sites, market towns and tiny
villages, churches, chapels, industrial museums, all play apart in the rich
cultural past and await discovery. Organic produce, locally caught lobsters and
sea food, cheese makers, home made chocolate and jam producers and highly
acclaimed eating places make Wales a destination for the gourmet.
In the north, you can enjoy coast, country and the mountains of
Snowdonia. In peaceful Mid Wales dolphins can be spotted in the clear waters of
Cardigan Bay and red kites can be seen in the skies above the Cambrian
Mountains.
South-West Wales has some of the best beaches in Europe
and family attractions like Oakwood theme park and Folly Farm.
South-East Wales
feature Cardiff with its redeveloped dock land area and marina, the Glamorgan
Heritage Coast, Brecon Beacons, and a complex of valleys renowned for their
rich industrial heritage and natural beauty.
Wales offers a huge variety
of self-catering accommodation. There are immaculately restored farmhouses,
charming country cottages, sea front apartments, cabins, chalets and even a
castle or two, giving a choice of a base for activities or relaxing in peaceful
secluded surroundings away from it all.
